MADRID, Spain: Animal rights activists released eight camels and a llama from a circus in Madrid on November 5.
The animals were later found walking through Madrid in the early hours of Friday, police said.
The animals belonged to Quiros Circus, whose owner blamed “sabotage” by animal rights activists for the release of the animals.
The escaped animals were spotted at about 05:00 wandering in the district of Carabranchel, near where the circus is operating from.
Officers carefully rounded the animals up, to ensure they would be returned “safe and sound”, police said.
Circus manager Mati Munoz told police that an electric fence that surrounded the animals’ enclosure had been cut.
He noted that animal rights activists hold yearly protests against the circus.
