The police command in Anambra has vowed to maintain peace, enforce lawful directives, and prevent any breach of public order across the state.

The command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Awka.

Mr Ikenga said the police commissioner, Ikioye Orutugu, was in Onitsha to reinforce public order, safety, and public confidence.

Governor Charles Soludo ordered the indefinite closure of Onitsha markets on Monday, following an unscheduled visit.

According to Mr Ikenga, the commissioner is on a security assessment tour, supervising the deployment of police-led joint security forces at strategic locations.

“This proactive engagement underscores our resolve to maintain peace, ensure compliance with lawful directives and prevent any breach of public order,” he said.

Mr Ikenga said the security situation in Onitsha remained calm, assuring residents, traders, and commuters of their safety.
