South Africa’s commission of inquiry says it will approach the Constitutional Court for former President Jacob Zuma to be charged with contempt of court after refusing to appear before the commission.
This comes after Zuma’s lawyers this morning confirmed that their client will not appear before the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture.
Zuma was scheduled to appear before the commission from the 15th of this month to the 19th.
In a letter to the commission, Zuma’s lawyers said the former president is still waiting for the outcome of his Pretoria High Court application challenging Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo’s decision not to rescue himself from the case.
The Constitutional Court ruled in January this year that Zuma should appear before the commission but he has vowed not to.
