The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced the appointment of Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie as its new substantive Vice-Chancellor, marking a major leadership transition at the institution.

The development was disclosed in an official statement issued on Sunday by the Office of the Head, Information and Public Relations, and signed by the Acting Director, Njelita Louis O.

According to the statement, the Governing Council of the university approved Professor Anyaehie’s appointment for a single, non-renewable tenure of five years. His selection was confirmed following the Council’s meeting held on November 16, 2025.

Professor Anyaehie, a renowned scholar in Physiology and Clinical Measurements, is expected to bring his wealth of academic and administrative experience to bear in consolidating the university’s academic advancements and institutional reforms.

He will be taking over from Professor (Dame) Carol Chinyelugo Arinze-Umobi, who has been serving in an acting capacity since the expiration of the previous administration.

The university community has welcomed the appointment, expressing optimism that Professor Anyaehie’s tenure will further strengthen UNIZIK’s reputation as a leading centre of learning and research in Nigeria.

The statement reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, transparency, and continuity in leadership, adding that the new Vice-Chancellor’s emergence followed due process in accordance with the university’s governing guidelines.

Njelita said his appointment takes effect from Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
