LONDON, England: On Christmas Day, a 19-year-old man armed with a cross-bow was arrested on the grounds of Windsor Castle while the royal family was in residence.

The man was initially charged with suspicion of breach or trespass of a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon.

The man, who is from Southampton, was found within “moments” of entering the grounds at 08:30, but he did not enter any buildings, according to the Thames Valley Police.

The police also confirmed that the royal family had been informed of the intrusion.

“An investigation is ongoing following this incident and we are working with colleagues from the Metropolitan police. We do not believe there is a wider danger to the public,” said Thames Valley Police Supt. Rebecca Mears.

Instead of spending Christmas at Sandringham, the Queen is staying at Windsor Castle this season.

Meanwhile, The Sun reports that the police are investigating a video made by the man under arrest, in which he declares that he wanted to “assassinate the Queen” in a “revenge” mission.

Scotland Yard has since confirmed that detectives were “assessing the contents of a video.”
