Tony Uranta, popular human rights activist, has passed on.

Mr Uranta died Wednesday afternoon after losing the battle to an undisclosed illness.

Before his demise, Mr  Uranta was the convener of Justice, Equity, Peace & Unity Initiative Nigeria (JEPUIN).

He also served as Executive Secretary at Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG).

Fellow activists Olisa Agbakoba, Pat Utomi and Olawale Okunniyi mourned Mr Uranta in a statement applauding his “contributions towards the advocacy for constitutional restructuring of Nigeria.”

Mr Okunniyi also noted that although he is dead, Mr Uranta’s legacies will be immortalised by his colleagues who are leaders of the Nigerian Civil Society.

The deceased is survived by  his wife Baroong Tony-Uranta, a staff of Channels TV and children.
