MOSCOW

Russia expects its titanium partnership with US aerospace giant Boeing to resume in the Sverdlovsk region through VSMPO-Avisma, the world’s largest titanium producer, First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov said in an interview published Tuesday.

Manturov told the Russian state-run Tass news agency that Moscow has not restricted titanium exports, and Boeing can continue purchases.

“At some point, we had a suspension of purchases. We did not introduce any restrictions in this area, so our colleagues can continue to purchase,” he said.

“Plus, we are counting on the resumption of work at the joint venture VSMPO-Avisma with Boeing, which is located in the Titanium Valley in the Sverdlovsk Region. These are joint investments; this is a mutually beneficial, interesting project.”

He stressed the venture contributed to optimizing production and logistics costs by ensuring supplies of finished components.

Manturov previously said Russia is open to cooperation with Boeing if the US manufacturer is willing to resume titanium purchases.

Ural Boeing Manufacturing, based in the Titanium Valley special economic zone, is a joint venture between Boeing and VSMPO-Avisma Corporation.

Boeing suspended purchases of Russian titanium in 2022 following the Ukraine war.
