The Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has trained 60 persons on the national policy on inclusive volunteerism for effective volunteer service delivery.

The training organised by the Nigerian Volunteer Service Department (NNVS) under the office of the SGF brought together youths, individual volunteers, state actors and religious leaders for the purpose of promoting volunteerism in Nigeria.

Some of the participants interviewed said the sensitisation session was an eye opener for them, promising to utilise the knowledge they acquired in sensitising their respective communities.

Speaking at the North East sensitisation campaign in Yola, the Acting Director, NNVS, Barrister Emmanuel Ekwugha said the sensitisation workshop was designed to create understanding about the concept of volunteerism and its impact on national development.

He stressed the need to raise awareness level in areas affected by Boko Haram insurgency and among the internally displaced persons as a way of fast-tracking the process of recovery.

The Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs at the OSGF, Andrew Adejo, said the programme would enhance the capacities of individual volunteers, adding that the federal government was ready to set up a national volunteer database portal for the registration of volunteers.

In his remark, Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Bashiru Ahmad commended the organisers for their innovative approach.
