ABSHA, Chad, 15th July, 2024 (WAM) — Under the patronage of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and within the framework of the Poetry Fora in Africa Initiative; the city of Absha, Chad, saw the launch of the third edition of the Arab Poetry Forum in Chad.

The Forum is organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs at Sharjah Department of Culture, in cooperation with the Chadian Creative Pioneers Association, over two days with the participation of 30 male and female poets.

The forum was held in Absha, in the presence of the Governor of Wara Governorate, Al Shafi Abu; the Secretary-General of the Chadian State of Ouday, Abkar Hussein; the Culture Delegate in the State of Ouday, Othman Hamdan Azib; the General Coordinator of the Forum, Dr. Ahmed Abu Al Fath Othman; and the head of the critics committee coming from the capital, N’Djamena, Dr. Hamza Ahmadai Musa; along with university and institute professors, students, and Arabic poetry readers.

Dr. Ahmed Abu Al-Fath Othman, said in a speech he delivered that “the forum strengthens the cultural and literary presence in Chad”, stressing that the visions of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah are beacons for spreading Arab culture through poetic and literary fora and major cultural events in Africa.

Othman highlighted that Sharjah has restored the presence of the Arabic language to Africa, based on what His Highness pledged to spread Arabic to be the human language as it was before, with the close follow-up of the Department of Culture in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Othman added that Sharjah Department of Culture supported Chad with thoughts and directives, and worked hard to implement His Highness’s directives and provided fruitful experiences, playing a major role in the success of this cultural event.

In his speech, poet Abdel Daim Abdullah Musa, pointed out that the forum strengthens the connection between the various poets of Chad and the poets of the world, praising the great role that Sharjah represents in supporting culture, especially the Arabic language, in Africa through many activities, stressing that the forum represents a beginning for many creative people in the Republic of Chad.
