SHARJAH, 22nd May, 2022 (WAM) — H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has directed the Department of Culture (DoC) to organise periodic poetry gatherings in the continent of Africa.

Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Head of the Department, said that His Highness’s new initiative comes in the interest of sponsoring the Arabic language and literature. This initiative complements the activities and literary forums organised by the Department in the Arab world.

The Department will start implementing the first phase of this initiative, including organising poetry gatherings in Senegal, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Mali, Nigeria, Chad and South Sudan, starting next June, according to the 2022 schedule.

Al Owais stated that the initiative of H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah constitutes a bridge for cultural relations with creators in all countries.

He added that poetry gatherings in Africa constitute real support for the Arabic language.
