Dr Liman Ibrahim, Controller-General, Federal Fire Service (FFS), has charged Nigerians to desist from attacking firefighters during fire emergencies.

Ibrahim who made the call on Tuesday in Abuja said Nigerians should instead appreciate and support firefighters who put their lives on the line to save other lives and properties.

He was speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the commemoration of the 2021 International Fire Fighters Day.

The day is marked every May 4th globally, in honour of firefighters.

The FFS boss said Nigerians need to stop destroying fire trucks at fire scenes as it was a disincentive to the firemen.

Dr Ibrahim said the May 4 international holiday for firefighters was to honour them, dead or alive for risking their lives while saving others.

He said, “they might be no more, but they remain alive in the hearts of those for whom they sacrificed their lives.’’

Ibrahim appreciated Nigerian firemen at all levels for ensuring the safety of lives and properties
