The attack occurred at about 12:00 p.m. near a primary school in Afikpo community.

Asuspected suicide bomber has detonated explosives in Ebonyi, Vanguard reported on Tuesday.

The attack occurred at about 12:00 p.m. near a primary school in Afikpo community, Afikpo North Local Government Area, Vanguard said citing witnesses in the area.

“He made an attempt at entering Amaizu/ Amangballa Primary School but was turned back by the school security since he couldn’t justify his reason for visiting. He immediately started running inside a nearby bush before a big bang was heard”, Vanguard reported a witness as saying.

The bomber was said to be the only one killed in the attack, although the conditions were still too hasty to determine whether or not there were other casualties.

A spokesman for the police in Ebonyi did not immediately answer a call seeking comments.

The attack comes as Nigerian forces are pursuing suspected IPOB elements from Ebonyi and other parts of the South-East, where separatist agitations have intensified in recent weeks.

Several police stations and electoral commission offices have been razed across the region since last month, forcing the police to issue advisory to personnel to avoid unnecessary movements across the affected states.
