Text: Psalm 121:1-2, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Introduction:
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we gather to acknowledge our dependence on God’s divine help. We live in a world where nations, kings, and individuals face numerous challenges that require supernatural intervention. As we explore the concept of divine help, let us recognize that our Lord Jesus Christ is the sole provider of all the help we need.
Point 1: Sovereign Nations Need Help
Even the most powerful nations require divine assistance. The Bible reminds us that “the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes” (Proverbs 21:1). We see this played out in the story of King Nebuchadnezzar, who, despite his greatness, was humbled by God’s power (Daniel 4:29-37). Similarly, nations like the United States, China, and Nigeria need divine guidance to navigate complex global issues.
Point 2: Kings and Sovereigns Need Help
History is replete with examples of monarchs and leaders who recognized their need for divine help. King David, a man after God’s own heart, frequently sought God’s guidance and intervention (1 Samuel 23:2, 30:8). Even the great Queen Esther, who saved the Jewish people from persecution, acknowledged her dependence on God’s help (Esther 4:16). Today, leaders like President Trump, President Tinubu, and other world leaders require divine wisdom to make informed decisions.
Point 3: Individuals and Families Need Help
We all face personal challenges that necessitate divine intervention. The Bible assures us that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). We see this in the story of the apostle Peter, who, despite his bravery, needed Jesus’ help to walk on water (Matthew 14:28-31). Similarly, families like yours and mine face various struggles, from financial difficulties to relationship challenges, and require divine help to overcome them.
The Basis of Divine Help
So, why do we need divine help? The answer lies in our inherent limitations as human beings. We are finite, fallible, and fragile, whereas God is infinite, infallible, and all-powerful. Our help comes from the Lord, who created the universe and governs the affairs of humanity. As the Psalmist declares, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1).
The Solution: Jesus Christ
In a world filled with uncertainty and chaos, where do we turn for help? The answer is Jesus Christ. He is the embodiment of divine help, the manifestation of God’s love and care for humanity. As Hebrews 13:6 reminds us, So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?’ Jesus Christ holds the keys to all the help we need. He is our Rock, our Refuge, and our Redeemer.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, dear brothers and sisters, let us acknowledge our need for divine help. Let us recognize that our Lord Jesus Christ is the sole provider of all the help we need. As we face the challenges of life, let us lift up our eyes to the hills, from where our help comes. Let us cry out to Jesus, our Divine Helper, and trust in His power to intervene in our lives. May we confidently declare, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.” Amen.
Prayer of Healing and Deliverance:
Dear Heavenly Father, we come before You today, acknowledging our need for Your divine help. We pray for Your intervention in our lives, that You would heal our wounds, deliver us from bondage, and set us free from the shackles of fear and doubt.
We pray for Your healing power to touch our bodies, minds, and spirits. Heal our relationships, restore our families, and bring peace to our communities.
Deliver us from the forces of darkness that seek to destroy us. Break every chain of addiction, fear, and anxiety that binds us. Set us free to serve You, to love You, and to worship You in spirit and truth.
We pray in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Final Blessing:
May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Amen.
