SAN FRANCISCO

Tesla is recalling more than 1.8 million vehicles in the US because of a software issue that may fail to detect unlatched hood, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Tuesday.

“An unhatched hood can fully open, obstructing the driver’s view and increasing the risk of a crash,” the NHTSA wrote in a statement.

The issue covers 1,849,638 potential vehicles, according to the NHTSA.

Tesla’s stock price was down more than 4.2% in the New York Stock Exchange at 12.45 p.m. EDT.
