Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has berated President Bola Tinubu as a dictatorial president.

Mr Abukakar spoke against the backdrop of Mr Tinubu’s statement announcing the lifting of the six-month suspension of Governor Simi Fubabara and Rivers lawmakers.

“Lifting the suspension of Governor Simi Fubara is nothing to cheer about,” Mr Abubakar on Thursday said. “The suspension of the Rivers State governor and the State House of Assembly was unconstitutional when it was done six months ago and is still illegal today.”

He added, “President Tinubu had no power to suspend a democratically elected governor and state lawmakers. The Rivers shenanigans only signpost the dictatorship of the Tinubu administration.”

The president had suspended Mr Fubara and lawmakers in Rivers parliament over a power tussle and share of political and state resources involving FCT minister Nyesom Wike in the oil-rich state.

Mr Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers citing potential crisis that could disrupt peace and public order.
