President Bola Tinubu on Monday appointed Adewale Adeniyi as Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

Mr Adeniyi is to replace former Customs CG, Hammed Ali, who was relieved of his job alongside all service chiefs Monday afternoon. Mr Ali, a former military governor of Kaduna, was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari on August 27, 2015, serving until today. His tenure was perhaps more infamous for his refusal to wear the institution’s uniform, which Mr Buhari failed to address for nearly eight years.

Mr Adeniyi’s appointment was announced alongside others in a statement by the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation.

Mr Adeniyi, who holds a master’s degree in communication management, once served as Customs spokesperson between June 2002 to May 2011.

His appointment comes as the transition panel advised Mr Tinubu to merge Customs and Federal Inland Revenue Service in order to maximise revenue generation for the federal government.
