Tinubu appoints members to varsity governing councils

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who announced the appointment in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, said Mr Obih’s appointment followed the death of a member of the council.

Mr Onanuga said the president also appointed Ralph Akinfeleye to the Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.
‎
Mr Akinfeleye is a former head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos and the chairman of the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.
‎
Previously, he served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.
‎
Mr Akinfeleye replaced Wahab Owokoniran, now Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
‎
Mr Onanuga said the president also named Ibrahim Yakasai as the new vice chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara State.
‎
The president appointed Hamisu Yelwa as the university’s registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as the bursar, and Shehu Liman as the librarian.
‎
Mr Yakasai, a retired colonel, is currently the provost of Bayero University’s College of Health Sciences, Kano.
‎
He chairs the Committee of Provosts of Medical Colleges in Nigeria and is a governing council member at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
‎
Mr Yakasai earned MBBS from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, then studied in the UK on a European Economic Commission scholarship.
‎
He holds membership and fellowship titles from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
‎
He completed a master’s in medical education at the University of Winchester and fellowships in the USA.
‎
Mr Yakasai also served as director-general of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
