The assistant to the president on public engagement, Fredrick Nwabufo has described President Bola Tinubu as the most decorated democrat of modern history.

Nwabufo in a recent interview said that President Tinubu’s commitment to democratic values is unprecedented.

Highlighting some of the achievements of the president since assuming office two years ago on May 29, 2023, Nwabufo said Tinubu’s administration has made glaring efforts to strengthen the nation’s democracy.

He said, “President Tinubu is the most decorated democrat in our modern history. His democratic credentials are public knowledge.

In the past 24 months, President Tinubu’s administration has made deliberate and valiant efforts to strengthen democracy and promote good governance by championing institutional reforms, judicial independence, and electoral integrity,” Neabufo said.

He also stated that the President Tinubu-led administration has remained committed to ensuring a robust and independent judiciary which is guided by standardised frameworks.

He listed the review of the electoral framework initiated by the president as well as the fiscal decentralisation which has successfully empowered governments at the subnational level to cope with emerging realities and alleviate the well-being of the masses.

In addition, Nwabufo said Tinubu has been open-minded in the meritorious appointment of public officials and heads of agencies.

According to Nwabufo, the reforms implemented by President Tinubu’s administration have served as a drive for improved transparency in public procurement, service delivery, rebuilding of trust in public institutions and deepening of democratic norms.

These reforms, Nwabufo added have also been key to ensuring electoral credibility, judicial independence, combating corruption and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.

“While closing implementation gaps is a work in progress, especially as regards local government accountability, President Tinubu’s governance strategy demonstrates a long-term investment in institutional resilience,” the presidential aide stated.

Speaking on the next half of Tinubu’s administration and what Nigerians are set to gain, Nwabufo said, “A more robust economy, a more secure country, improved infrastructure, more jobs, and of course, the percolation of macroeconomic gains to more Nigerians.”
