The police on Tuesday arraigned a travel agent, Femi Oyeleye, 53, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly defrauding an intending traveller to the tune of N8.5 million to procure Qatar Visa.
The defendant with an undisclosed address is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Femi Oluwadare, alleged that the defendant, sometime in June 2025, obtained N8.5million from one Taiwo Anjorin, an intending traveller on the pretence to procure a Qatar Visa for him.
Mr Oluwadare alleged that the defendant “stole the money from Anjorin,”at about 11.30a.m, at Ring Road area, Ibadan.
Mr Oluwadare said the offence contravened the provision of Section 383 and punishable under section 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, T. G. Daodu, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N5 million, with two sureties in like sum, one of which must be the defendant’s sibling.
Daodu, thereafter, adjourned the matter until May 13, for hearing.
