Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, the commander, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), maintaining peace in Plateau and its environs, says troops have deployed technology to tackle all security threats.

Mr Abubakar, who doubles as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Rukuba, near Jos, said this when members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Plateau, visited him on Friday in Jos.

The commander said the inability of troops to reach every part of the state necessitated the deployment of modern technology to enhance its operations.

”We have recorded remarkable successes in our bid toward ensuring a peaceful Plateau; the state is generally peaceful now, and socio-economic activities, including nightlife, are fully back.

”This is possible because we have deployed technology in tracking all criminal elements and hideouts in the state.

”Our troops cannot be everywhere at the same time, and the practice anywhere in the world is that technology is deployed where the boots cannot reach,” he said.

Mr Abubakar, who described journalists as ”critical partners,”  commended them for their professionalism.

”We want to thank members of this chapel and indeed other journalists in the state for their support, particularly for changing the narrative through professional reportage,” he said.

Earlier, Polycarp Auta, chairman of the chapel, commended the military and other security agencies for their efforts toward ensuring lasting peace.

Mr Auta said the visit was to thank the commander for always supporting the chapel.

The chairman promised to support the state’s military and other security agencies to succeed.
