US President-elect, Donald Trump, has urged his supporters to donate to Democrats to help them overcome financial difficulty in the aftermath of the general elections.

Mr Trump, who made the appeal in a social media post on Sunday, expressed surprise that the Democrats were short of enough dollars following the polls.

He said, “I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 presidential election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of dollars left over. Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others.’’

A report from Christopher Cadelago, California bureau chief for Politico, noted that Harris’ campaign ended the race with a debt of at least $20 million.

Mr Trump in the interest of unity appealed to his party and supporters to donate to the Democrats.

He added, “Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a party and for the sake of desperately needed unity, do. We have money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was “Earned Media,” and that doesn’t cost very much.

Mr Trump, the Republican Party in the just-concluded presidential election secured a historic return to the White House having defeated Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party in the election on Tuesday.
