UNITED NATIONS
The UN Security Council renewed on Friday the authorization to inspect ships suspected of violating arms embargo on Libya.
The-15 member council voted 14-1 with Russia abstaining.
The resolution allows for a 12-month extension of the European Union’s Operation IRINI which was launched on March 31, 2020 to enforce the UN-imposed arms embargo on Libya.
Libya descended into chaos following Muammar Gaddafi’s crackdown on protesters in 2011, eventually resulting in his ouster.
