The United Nations Children’s Fund has commended Governor Abba Yusuf for approving funds for the procurement of ready-to-use therapeutic food to address severe acute malnutrition among children in the state.
Rahama Farah, chief of UNICEF, Kano field office, gave the commendation on Wednesday in Kano during a courtesy visit by the director-general of the Kano State Social Protection Agency, Fateema Abdullahi.
Mr Farah described the governor’s intervention as a bold and compassionate investment that would save the lives of severely malnourished children and strengthen child health outcomes across the state.
He said the commitment demonstrated the value of state-level leadership in driving sustainable results in nutrition and child welfare.
Responding, the KASPA director-general conveyed Mr Yusuf’s appreciation for UNICEF’s long-standing partnership with the state.
She said UNICEF had played a vital role in supporting the enactment of the Social Protection Law, the development of the Social Protection Policy, and the implementation of programmes in education, nutrition and child protection.
Ms Abdullahi further sought deeper collaboration with UNICEF in institutional strengthening, reintegration of out-of-school children, inclusion in coordination platforms and expanded support across all thematic areas.
The meeting reinforced the shared resolve of Kano State and UNICEF to enhance social protection systems, safeguard vulnerable children and improve nutrition and learning outcomes.
