The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has granted an application by Lagos State Government to be joined as a party in the suit filled by Federal Inland Revenue Service against collection of value added tax by state governments.
In his ruling, Justice Haruna Tsammani ruled that Lagos state government has been able to establish that it has a direct and legal interest to the subject matter of the appeal.
Mr Tsammani granted the reliefs sought on the originating summons by Lagos government and made them third respondent in the suit.
The judge adjourned the matter to October 7. He then moved the matter to Port-Harcourt for further hearing.
He ordered parties to be served the amended processes.
FIRS, at the last adjourned date, through its counsel Mohammed Magaji (SAN), prayed the court to discountenance the application of the Lagos State Government.
Peoples gazette reported that the FIRS had in an appeal marked CA/PH/282/2021 sought an injunction pending appeal and a stay of execution of the Rivers court judgement on VAT collection.
