Wizkid saw his hopes of winning another Grammy dashed Sunday night as he lost out in the two categories where he was nominated for awards.

The awards ceremony is being held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, USA.

Big Wiz, who won the 2021 Grammy courtesy of his collaboration with Beyonce, had his hit song, “Essence”, nominated in the Best Global Music category. He, however, lost to Pakistani Vocalist Afrooj Aftab.

Also nominated in the same category were Nigerian legend Femi Kuti for “PA PA PA”, and Benin Republic legend Angelique Kidjo alongside Nigerian superstar Burna Boy for the song “Do Yourself”.

Starboy was also nominated for the Best Global Music Album, with his “Made In Lagos (Deluxe Edition)” album. The honours, however, went to five-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo for her album “Mother Nature”.

Angelique not only beat Wizkid to claim the award, but also in that category were Femi Kuti and Made Kuti with their album “Legacy +”, Daniel Ho and friends with album “Daniel HO and friends (Live in concert)” and Rocky Dawuni with album “Voice of Bunbon Vol 1”.

Although some Wizkid fans have expressed their displeasure over his loss, some have even gone on to claim that the star was robbed of a well deserved win.

Angelique in her acceptance speech thanked a list of stars that helped make her “Mother Nature” album a success. Making the list were Yemi Alade, Burna Boy, Davido, Mr Eazi, her producers, writers, fans and other African singers.
