About 3,000 people without tickets had broken into the venue of the concert, causing congestion and crushing amongst the crowds.

One of the four critically injured victims of Thursday night pandemonium at Asake’s South London concert has died.

The victim, 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo, of Newham, was left in critical condition following the stampede at the ravemaking Afrobeat sensation’s show. She succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Saturday morning.

About 3,000 people without tickets had broken into the venue of the concert, causing congestion and crushing amongst the crowds.

The Metropolitan Police were then called to the scene to cancel the show amid security concerns. Unfortunately, at least eight concert-goers had suffered different degrees of injury, with four of them being left  in critical conditions.

Ms Ikumelo, who was one of the victims left in critical conditions, was unable to survive the fatal incident. Two other women, aged 21 and 23, remain in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, the singer had since released a statement, saying his heart is with the victims of the incident, while confirming the initiation of processes in reaching out to the individuals personally.

“My heart is with those who were injured last night and caused any form of discomfort. I pray you get well soonest. I am also in the process of reaching out to individuals.

“I still do not have the full brief from the venue management themselves as to what led to the disruption at the entrance of the Brixton Academy, but we are thankful that all was peaceful at the end,” part of the statement said.
