The Allied Peoples Movement, Lagos chapter, says the dividends of democracy should reach every citizen, regardless of location or social status. The party stated this in its Democracy Day message signed on Friday.

The party said inclusive governance is the true essence of democracy, urging leaders to prioritise the welfare of all citizens.

“Under an APM-led administration, the dividends of democracy will not be restricted to a privileged few. They will reach every nook and cranny of Lagos state.

“No part of Lagos will be left behind in our pursuit of development, prosperity and social justice,” the APM said.

According to the party, residents in urban and rural communities deserve equal access to development and government services.

It said many Lagos residents are still waiting to enjoy the full benefits of the state’s vast resources and opportunities, adding that Democracy Day offered a chance to reflect on whether governance was positively affecting ordinary citizens.

The party commended residents for their resilience despite prevailing economic and social challenges.

It reiterated the party’s commitment to an alternative model of governance anchored on inclusion and service delivery, pointing out that access to quality education, healthcare, transportation, security and economic opportunities should not depend on where people live.

The APM expressed confidence that Lagosians would embrace leadership that prioritises equitable development across the state and urged them to remain hopeful and to participate actively in strengthening democratic institutions.
