Tajudeen Abbas, a lawmaker representing Zaria federal constituency (Kaduna), has been elected speaker of the House of Representatives.
On Tuesday, Mr Abbas, an anointed candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), defeated Idris Wase, the former deputy speaker of the ninth assembly, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Mr Abbas scored 352 votes of the total 359 votes cast, according to votes monitored on Channels TV live broadcast.
Mr Abbas succeeds Femi Gbajabiamila, now the chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu.
