Julius Maada Bio on 5-day visit to China

ISTANBUL

Chinese President Xi Jinping met his counterpart from Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, in Beijing on Wednesday.

Xi said China will work “to take the relationship to new heights.”

“China will continue to follow the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith to enhance mutual understanding and friendly cooperation with African countries, further synergize China’s development with the development of Africa and the World,” said Xi, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

Xi pledged to work for the success of this year’s Forum on China–Africa Cooperation.

Bio arrived Tuesday on a five-day visit for talks with Chinese leadership.

Bio is also scheduled to meet Premier Li Qiang and top legislator Zhao Leji.

China’s Foreign Ministry said the two countries enjoy a “traditional friendship,” and have “firmly” supported each other on issues concerning core interests, carried out efficient cooperation in the field of economic and social development and maintained close coordination on international affairs.

“It is believed that this visit will inject new impetus into the comprehensive and in-depth development of China-Sierra Leone ties, and push for more achievements in the friendly cooperation between the two countries,” it said on the eve of Bio’s trip.
