The North East Governors’ Forum has appointed Umar Gulani as its new director-general.

The forum’s chairman and Governor Babagana Zulum announced this in a statement.

Mr Zulum expressed confidence in Mr Gulani’s ability to lead the forum effectively, citing his extensive experience in governance and public service.

He urged him to leverage his expertise to advance the forum’s mission of fostering development and cooperation across the North-East.

The governor also extended his gratitude to the outgoing acting director-general, Mohammed Yusufari, for his contributions to the forum and the region during his tenure.

Mr Gulani, a seasoned administrator, is expected to bring decades of experience in public service to his new role.

Before this appointment, Mr Gulani served as director of general services at the office of the secretary to the government of the federation from 2019 to 2022.

He also represented the SGF’s office on the Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) from 2014 to 2019.

Earlier, he worked as deputy director in the Department of Planning, Ministry of Defence, from 2011 to 2013.

A graduate of the University of Maiduguri with a Bachelor of Arts in Education (1985), Mr Gulani attended several high-level management and leadership courses, including Leadership Training with UN-Habitat in 2003 and an International Human Resource and Personnel Management course in 2005.
