SARAJEVO, Bosnia Herzegovina

Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanjo Fajon criticized US President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday for threats to take control of Greenland and the Panama Canal.

“Slovenia does not agree to change internationally recognized borders, neither by weapons nor by force,” Fajon told the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) after a government session.

Fajon said Trump’s statements indicate his aggressive foreign policy stance.

“They caused a lot of worries, headaches, and anxiety at a time when we are witnessing disrespect for the rule of law, international law and the UN Charter throughout the world,” said Fajon.

She assessed that the initial reactions to Trump’s statements from Denmark and its autonomous territory of Greenland indicate he wants to create his own path.

“If violent tendencies for accession were to emerge, that would be extremely worrying,” added Fajon.

Trump reignited the contentious proposal Monday on his Truth Social platform, declaring, “Greenland is an incredible place, and the people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, and cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reiterated his country’s firm stance on Greenland’s autonomy on Tuesday, following renewed calls by Trump for an American takeover of the Arctic territory.
