The police in South Africa have announced the arrest of a female suspect in connection with the murder of Isaac Satlat, a 22-year-old Nigerian e-hailing driver in Pretoria West.

Footage of Mr Satlat, who was reportedly a student, struggling with two passengers, a male and a female, as they strangled him, had gone viral on social media since the incident on Thursday.

The police, who confirmed the arrest in a statement, said an investigation has been launched into the incident and that more arrests are imminent.

“The police have arrested a female suspect after an e-hailing driver was allegedly killed while inside the car in Pretoria West on Wednesday, 11/02. More arrests are imminent as the police investigation continues,” the statement said.

Noting that the attackers hijacked Mr Satlat’s vehicle, police added, “Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim was murdered by a male and female who had requested the services of an e-hailing driver in Pretoria West. The hijacked vehicle and the body of the victim were found in Atteridgeville on the same day.”

The suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of carjacking and murder.

Until his death, Mr Setlat was a student at Pretoria Setlat and was expected to graduate in March.

The deceased’s gruesome murder has ignited outrage and renewed conversations over xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other foreigners in South Africa.
