President Bola Tinubu on Friday commissioned the ultra-modern Bola Tinubu Complex at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen specialist healthcare services and reduce medical tourism in Nigeria.

Mr Tinubu, represented by the medical director of FMC Abuja, Saad Ahmed, during the unveiling of the facility in Abuja, described the project as a major milestone in improving quality healthcare delivery nationwide.

According to him, the project reflects the federal government’s commitment to repositioning the healthcare sector toward more efficient, accessible and quality healthcare service delivery for Nigerians across the country.

“The commissioning of this complex demonstrates the importance Mr President attaches to the healthcare sector and his unwavering commitment towards ensuring accessible and quality healthcare for Nigerians,” he said.

Mr Tinubu said that the complex was strategically designed to enhance specialist clinical services and reduce the increasing trend of Nigerians travelling abroad for medical treatment and other specialised healthcare services.

“With this development, Nigerians will have greater access to quality healthcare services while strengthening the nation’s capacity to reduce medical tourism abroad,” he added.

He said the facility comprised eight consulting rooms, twin theatre suites, ear, nose and throat (ENT) and ophthalmology departments, a fully equipped laboratory and pharmacy, nine VIP wards and four general wards.

According to him, the complex also includes a coffee lounge, staff lounge and a dedicated private and VIP clinic designed for dignitaries and private patients requiring specialised healthcare attention at the facility.

He assured Nigerians of the hospital’s commitment to sustaining quality healthcare delivery, emphasising that citizens deserved access to the best medical services and modern healthcare infrastructure within the country.

Also speaking, Bioku Muftau, head of clinical services, alongside other members of the hospital’s top management committee, commended Mr Tinubu for the successful completion and commissioning of the healthcare project.

Ben Achusi, deputy head of clinical services, also hailed the medical director for his leadership and efforts toward transforming FMC Abuja into a world-class healthcare institution serving Nigerians effectively.

The event featured the official cutting of the ribbon, the unveiling of the commemorative plaque and a virtual tour of the newly completed facility.

Some patients who reacted to the commissioning expressed optimism that the facility would provide them with improved specialist healthcare services comparable to standards obtainable in developed countries across the world.
