The Coalition of Non-State Schools has directed all affiliated private schools not to open on Friday to show solidarity with public calls for the prompt rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo state.
The coalition comprises several private school associations, including the Association of Private School Owners, the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, and the Association of Model Islamic Schools, among others.
A statement on Tuesday by the acting chairman and acting secretary, Jamiu Muhammed and Mayowa Solademi, respectively, said the coalition’s resolution followed the recent school abduction incident and the need to ensure the safety and security of pupils, students, staff, and school communities.
“All private schools across Oyo state shall be closed on Friday, 5th June, 2026, in solidarity with calls for the prompt release of our kidnapped pupils and teachers,” the statement said.
The group noted that a special prayer session would be organised by all private schools across the state on the same day to seek divine intervention, protection, peace, and security for communities, schools, and the nation at large.
“Parents, guardians, school proprietors, teachers and students are encouraged to participate in the prayer programme as directed by their respective schools,” it stated.
The coalition also called on all relevant security agencies to intensify efforts towards safeguarding lives and property across the state.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders as we collectively seek lasting peace and security in Oyo State,” the coalition added.
