Babatunde Ayala, on Wednesday in Kaduna, assumed duty as the director-general of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria.

Prior to his appointment, the new director-general was the commander of the Command Engineering Depot, Nigeria Army.

Mr Ayala took over from Anaedi Edet, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, Abuja.

He is a member of the 43 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy.

Mr Ayala thanked President Bola Tinubu, the defence minister, the defence chief and the chief of army staff for the appointment.

He congratulated Mr Edet on all his successes, especially the kick-start of the production of ammunition and other activities in the various departments of DICON.

Mr Ayala assured that he would continue from where he had stopped and always seek the support of the entire staff to meet the demands of the military and other security agencies.

Mr Edet, in his farewell speech, appealed to the staff to give the new director-general maximum support.

He commended Mr Tinubu for signing the DICON’s Act 2023 into law.

He said that since his assumption in July 2023,  within 21 months had transformed DICON’s production capabilities by overseeing the manufacture of critical defence equipment.
