BEIJING

China’s President Xi Jinping on Tuesday met with Central Asian leaders in the Kazakh capital Astana.

Kazakhstan is hosting the 2nd Central Asia-China Summit.

Xi separately met with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.

The Chinese president urged both Beijing and Bishkek to advance the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, and Kyrgyzstan to “jointly oppose unilateralism, safeguard international economic and trade order for more just, equitable global governance system.”

Japarov in turn said Bishkek supports three major global initiatives put forward by Xi.

Xi also expressed support for Tajikistan protecting its “national independence, sovereignty, security,” during his meeting with Rahmon.

On Monday, the Chinese president also met with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Xi and Tokayev had agreed on expanding bilateral cooperation in fields such as energy, aerospace, digitalization, agriculture, tourism, medicine, media, and science.
