Youths on Wednesday barricaded the Kwara-Kogi highway following the dastardly bandits’ attack on Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku town, Ekiti LGA of Kwara.

In a video online, the youths were seen blocking the deserted road with various materials, preventing vehicles from moving. A background voice in the video lamented the attack, warning motorists not to ply the road.

“This is a live video from Eruku city,” the voice said. “People are not smiling at all based on the incident that happened yesterday. People are very angry and will deal with anybody who misbehaves.”

Armed bandits with sophisticated weapons disrupted the church session, shooting sporadically on Tuesday, killing two people, and abducting several others.

Police spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who confirmed the attack, said the divisional police officer, alongside police operatives and local vigilantes, responded after gunshots were heard from the outskirts of the community.

In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq condemned the attack as “unconscionable” and urged President Bola Tinubu to deploy additional security forces to the area.

“The governor has sought immediate deployment of more security operatives to support the existing security architecture in the area. He requested that this new measure be activated immediately,” the statement said.

While expressing sympathies to families of the victims, Mr AbdulRazaq assured residents that the Kwara government would continue to back security agencies in efforts to safeguard lives and property across Kwara State.

Meanwhile, former Senate President Bukola Saraki urged Mr Tinubu and security agencies to urgently ensure the freedom of kidnapped victims.
