CAIRO

Egypt’s parliament adjourned a Sunday emergency session to discuss authorizing military support for Saudi Arabia.

A second session to discuss the matter will be held on Monday, Egypt’s Al Qahera News channel reported, without revealing further details.

The session came at the request of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who said on Saturday that Cairo would take all necessary measures to defend Saudi Arabia if Riyadh requested assistance.

Saudi Arabia has recently come under attack by Yemen’s Houthi group.

Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014. That prompted a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government. While a UN-brokered truce in April 2022 successfully brought years of relative calm.
