RABAT, 6th June, 2022 (WAM) — The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has implemented the eighth phase of its campaign against eye diseases in Morocco, following the directives of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), and Honorary Chairperson of the ERC.
The campaign aims to provide healthcare services to thousands of patients in Moroccan villages and remote areas.
An ERC delegation currently visiting Morocco, led by Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, ERC Secretary-General, witnessed the implementation of a range of humanitarian missions and attended the launch of phase eight of the campaign.
The campaign, which has benefitted 27,000 people in many regions in Morocco, includes cataract surgeries, implanting lenses using advanced surgical techniques and conducting early medical detection of glaucoma, as well as providing necessary medicines and eyeglasses to beneficiaries.
Dr. Al Falahi said the campaign is taking place as part of Sheikha Fatima’s initiatives aimed at easing the suffering of vulnerable people and underscores her growing role in meeting the humanitarian, health and developmental needs of communities in need.
He also affirmed that the campaign aligns with the aspirations of the UAE leadership and the country’s strategy aimed at ensuring humanitarian sustainability.
The ERC has prioritised the campaign and aims to enlarge the scope of its beneficiaries in Morocco, Dr. Al Falahi added, thanking the ERC’s partners in Morocco, including the UAE Embassy, the country’s Ministry of Health, and the Moroccan Medical Association for Solidarity (AMMS).
