MADRID
The flow of irregular migration from North Africa to Spain continues to grow, according to the Spanish Coast Guard on Monday.
Some 483 migrants, including women and children, in eight boats arrived in the islands of Tenerife, El Hierro and La Gomera over the weekend, the coast guard said.
Authorities added that the number of migrants who arrived in the Canary Islands reached some 32,000 in the first 10 months of the year, an 80% increase from the same period of 2023.
Moreover, more than 840 migrants also arrived in the country’s Balearic Islands last week, which is the highest weekly arrival of migrants.
So far this year, some 4,675 migrants arrived in the island, twice the number recorded last year.
