Four killed, 14 injured in China earthquake

A6.1 magnitude earthquake killed no fewer than four persons while 14 were injured in Ya’an City in China’s southwest Sichuan Province.

The earthquake relief headquarters in China announced the disaster on Wednesday.

Reports from the China Earthquake Network Centre stated that the quake started at around 5:00 p.m. local time.

The earthquake was followed by another quake around 4.5-magnitude jolt in Baoxing County, an area in the city of Ya’an. 

Xinhua news agency in China however reported that the major casualties were recorded from the Baoxing County.

Emergency operations are underway in response to the quake. A team has been assigned to aid local emergency rescue efforts the ministry of emergency management said.

In the year 2008, Sichuan province experienced its deadliest earthquake to hit China. The quake led to the death of More than 200 people, and at least 13,000 were injured from falling debris and structural collapses caused by the quake.
