Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State and director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Council says the party would take necessary actions when Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers and other members of the G-5 make their position known.

Mr Tambuwal, in an interactive session with journalists in Sokoto on Saturday, however, said the party would lawfully “bring any of its erring members to book.”

“The five good colleagues that are in G-5- you know, I have always been saying this, we engage in political engineering and political negotiations. It is not a war of attrition.

“I always submit that in this our business, whatever it is that you are doing, even if you try to hide it, it will come out. You cannot plan and execute a political project in your own bedroom,” he said.

This followed claims that Mr Wike, Seyi Makide of Oyo, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okeizie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Samuel Ortom of Benue state, were considering a deal with Bola Tinubu of the APC.

Mr Wike had denied the claims, saying, “They said we had a meeting with so and so. What is your problem? Assuming there was a meeting, has Atiku not been holding meetings with the governors of APC?

“Ask him. As he is in Dubai, don’t we know what is going on? So, why do you bother about us? G5 that you said you can win without us; leave us alone.”

However, Mr Tambuwal reiterated that the party would not hesitate to respond when the governors make their decision known.

“So, when my colleagues resolve on what to do, I think it is then that the party will now respond to whatever position they have taken,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Tambuwal urged politicians to be mature during the campaigns for the 2023 general elections in the state.

“In Sokoto, some of our areas are facing security threats which our political activities need not to increase the situation but sympathise with the victims.

“We have witnessed the campaign where people go about their business activities without any intimidation or harassment.

“Therefore, politicians should be guided to ensure a peaceful process, because with only peace the system could be sustained,” he said.
