The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) says it received 140 complaints from Kano in July.

The NHRC state coordinator, Shehu Abdullahi, said this during an interview on Friday in Kano.

He said 50 cases were treated, while 90 were pending.

Mr Abdullahi said 68 cases bordered on child abandonment and child rights violations.

According to him, 32 of the cases received during the period under review are on domestic violence and right to life.

“The remaining 40 cases are on economic and cultural rights, law enforcement abuses and neglect of parental responsibilities,” he said.

Mr Abdullahi said the commission also meditated on marital matters.

He urged couples to be more tolerant of one another to better handle their responsibilities.

The coordinator said the commission would continue to strengthen collaboration with security operatives and other relevant agencies to promote and protect human rights.
