A housewife, Safiya Yusuf, approached the upper area court in Kubwa, Abuja, on Friday to seek the dissolution of her 26-year-old marriage to Muhammed Kusa on grounds of lack of love and affection.

Mrs Yusuf, a mother of five, told the court that she married Mr Adamu in November 1998, according to Islamic laws.

She said she no longer loved her husband and begged the court to dissolve the marriage.

However, the respondent said he was still in love with his wife and needed time to settle any dispute.

“I still love my wife. Our families have met for mediation and will meet again to discuss the matter. I want the court to give me time,” he said.

The petitioner, however, said their families had not met before about them, and she did not want them to meet over the issue.

The judge, Mohammed Wakili, advised the respondent to try his best to reconcile with his wife.

Mr Wakili adjourned the matter until May 9 for a hearing or report of settlement.
