KHARTOUM, Sudan

Some 1,100 people have fled the city of Bara in Sudan’s North Kordofan state due to worsening insecurity, bringing the total number of displaced civilians over the past four days to 35,620, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Thursday.

In a statement, the UN agency said that the displaced civilians moved to various locations across the city of Ed-Dueim in White Nile state in southern Sudan.

It noted that several waves of displacement were reported in the localities of Sheikan, Rahad, Bara, Umm Ruwaba, and Umm Damm Haj Ahmed in North Kordofan, bringing the total number of displaced people to 35,620 from Oct. 26 to 29.

Earlier Thursday, Sudanese authorities reported deaths and injuries in a drone attack carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Zareibat Sheikh El Borai area in North Kordofan.

Since April 15, 2023, the Sudanese army and the RSF have been locked in a war that numerous regional and international mediations have failed to end. The conflict has killed about 20,000 people and displaced over 15 million as refugees and internally displaced persons, according to UN and local reports.
