The Katsina State Universal Basic Education is collaborating with the Universal Basic Education Commission to strengthen the capacity for teachers’ development and school support.

Speaking at the event, Aleshin Olumayowa, the national programme coordinator for Better Education Service Delivery for All, said 85 state master trainers of school support officers would benefit.

According to him, such a crucial training programme for designated project officers and school support officers, embarked on by the UBEC boss, Aisha Garba, aimed to reform the basic education sub-sector.

Mr Olumayowa added that the exercise aimed to enhance the quality and support systems of teachers in Oyo, Adamawa, and Katsina.

In her keynote address, the commissioner for basic and secondary education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, said the training was crucial and timely.

According to her, the training is not just another workshop but a strategic step in the collective journey toward achieving Result Area 2 DLIs of the TESS Project.

Ms Musa-Musawa, represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Ummukhair Bawa, explained that the project focused squarely on enhancing literacy outcomes as a cornerstone for all other forms of learning.

Meanwhile, Binta Abdulmuminu, the state project coordinator for TESS, said that the objectives of the training include exposure to digitised content and providing a thorough understanding of the digitised self-study content across four core subjects.

Ms Abdulmuminu said that other objectives included equipping officers with knowledge of the monitoring and evaluation framework for participants as well as the education management information system platform for data collation.

She added that developing the skills necessary to effectively support the benefiting states in implementing the curated teacher content and SSO applications was part of the objectives.
