In an unprecedented move, King Charles III on Thursday released details of his personal income taxes, becoming the first British monarch to do so.

The monarch has paid more than  £30 pounds in taxes, Buckingham Palace disclosed in a statement on Thursday.

The palace described the disclosure of the monarch’s tax details “as part of the Royal Household’s commitment to transparency”, adding that more details will be released on Friday.

A palace spokesman also said, “Our aim is to explain all elements of royal finances in a way that further enhances clarity and accessibility.”

The personal income tax paid by King Charles’s eldest son and heir, Prince William, was more than £20 million.

The royal disclosed his taxes when he was the Prince of Wales.

Queen Elizabeth II was the first-ever British monarch to pay taxes in 1992, the only time she did so.
