Customers of Ikeja Electric have continued to groan over widespread power outage in Lagos as Ikeja Electric blames the Transmission Company of Nigeria. Residents took to social media to lament the days-long outage, which has lasted between three and five days.

An X user, @aro_shola, said, “Why hasn’t there been light in Akoka since Friday midnight? Day 4 of no light. No statement. No accountability. No explanation. Not even a timeline for restoration. Just darkness and silence. How is someone supposed to plan or run a business like this? Everything is rigged against you. I HATE IT HERE. goddd.”

@akinolafolabiMU stated, “Lagos is in darkness. Ikeja no light, Egbeda blackout, LAGOS IN DARKNESS.”

@_DeejustDee said, “We’ve not had electricity for 2 days now. What’s happening, Lagos?”

@DebbySimon69 lamented, “@IkejaElectric is the worst thing that ever happened to Lagosians…. Fuel is on the high side… We don’t have light for the past two weeks at Ojodu Berger… The whole of Ojodu is in darkness, Morgan Estate. @IkejaElectric. Oh God what kind of country is this?”

@nikkyflourish stated, “Light hasn’t been restored since yesterday night till now; the charging centre is charging N500 per phone, and the crowd is much.”

“@IkejaElectric, what exactly is the matter with the power supply in Ogudu? This is the worst I have ever experienced. Less than 6 hours of light for the past 3 days? What the actual heck is going on?” @FonnieLaw said.

@titlayo_maryam said, “Ki lo nsele? No light in Shomolu, Fola Agoro, Shodimu, Fagbeyiro, Odubanjo, Ajose, Akeju. In fact, the entire Shomolu environs have been without light since Friday night, and no reason has been given? All, Band A areas! Haba! You guys should do better oo make una life no spoil.”

Ikeja Electric, in a statement on Monday, blamed the power outage on limited supply by the TCN.

“We sincerely apologise for the prolonged power outage and the inconvenience it is causing. The current situation is due to significant limitations on the transmission network, which have substantially reduced the power allocation available to Ikeja Electric, resulting in extended load-shedding across our network.

“We are actively engaging the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and we have received assurances that efforts are ongoing to address the constraints and restore improved supply. Please be assured that we are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to work with TCN to restore normal supply as soon as the available power improves,” said the energy firm.
