Mauritian President Dharambeer Gokhool said Wednesday that his nation saw the blue economy, climate change and disaster management, as well as culture and film as areas of expanded cooperation with Türkiye, according to a statement by the presidency.
Gokhool said Türkiye’s internationally recognized film and television industry was an avenue for cultural exchange as well as education, including opportunities to expand access for students to Türkiye’s scholarships program.
He made the remarks at the State House in Port Louis, where he received letters of credence from Türkiye’s new ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Mauritius, Halime Ebru Demircan.
Gokhool and Demircan reviewed the longstanding and cordial relations between Mauritius and Türkiye, formally established in 1976 and exchanged views on avenues to strengthen cooperation.
“Discussions covered trade and investment, including opportunities for greater engagement between the Economic Development Board (ERB) and its Turkish counterparts, as well as development cooperation through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA),” said the presidency.
Gokhool sent best wishes to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as the pair also discussed the role of Turkish Airlines in strengthening air and tourism connectivity between the two nations.
