Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has said she was informed of “disturbing allegations” against her estranged father, Thomas Markle, in 2018, after a letter outlining the claims was sent to the Metropolitan Police and subsequently shared with her. Her comments follow reports that images of child sexual abuse allegedly belonging to her father were found at his former home in the Philippines.
Thomas Markle denies possessing such images.
In a statement, the Duchess of Sussex said she was “deeply distressed” by the latest developments and expressed her thoughts for any children who may have been harmed. She also explained that she had kept her distance from her father and prevented him from having contact with her children to protect them.
BBC says that investigators are analyzing data to establish the scope of the alleged criminal activity, with forensic results expected to take approximately one week.
